Brighton - February 2005

It would only make sense to do a little exploring in Brighton having to spend the night after the Green Day concert. From what little we have seen of Brighton, it isn't that bad of a getaway for Londoners especially in the summer months. Obviously it's a touch too cold to go for a swim now but I could tell it would be very busy during the summer given the difficulty we ran into in finding accommodations even in the winter.

Our first impression of the people of Brighton was quite weird however. It almost seemed as Brighton didn't like us but I'm pretty sure it's just bad luck. When we arrived in Brighton it was roughly 2:30 p.m. and it took us about another hour to find accommodation and get checked in. By then we were pretty hungry and stopped by a coffee shop type establishment for lunch. The place actually looked a bit dodgy but since we were seated and everything, we decided to stick it out. We ended up sitting next to two transvestites which was quite interesting. The tables in the establishment were so close together we might have well been sitting at the same table. Even other people in the restaurant looked a bit weird but we toughed it out. That evening, we were also met with strong, chilling coastal winds. I know I shouldn't complain about the weather especially since I haven't even delt with temperatures below zero yet. The next day, when we were walking towards the Royal Pavilion, I managed to step in a huge pile of fresh dog crap. It wasn't even funny how big the pile of crap was. It must have been one big dog as its crap was all over my shoes and it stunk bad. I tried to get most of it off scraping it on the pavement and a nearby grass area but when I got home, I had to thoroughly clean my shoes with a toothbrush. Boy was that a gruesome chore.

But other than a few misforuntes, I had a lot of fun. Green Day was undoubtedly the highlight followed by the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Pier and the sight of the ocean itself.
